The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III is the flagship digital SLR by Canon Inc. of Japan. It was launched in Amstelveen, The Netherlands on August 20, 2007 as the successor to the EOS-1Ds Mark II. The EOS-1Ds Mark III has a full-frame 21.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, the highest pixel count available as of 2007 in a 35 mm-equivalent digital SLR, with 14 bit A/D converters for a total colour depth of 16,384 tones per pixel.
The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III has a 3-inch LCD screen, "Live View" capability and dual DIGIC III processors to allow shooting of up to 5 frames per second. The EOS-1Ds also inherits many of the new technologies introduced into the Canon EOS-1D Mark III, including 63-zone exposure metering, 19 cross-type auto focus system, and the EOS Integrated Cleaning System. The professional grade camera body is large, ruggedly built, and is dust and weather-resistant.
